What Happens When the Included Traffic of a Cloud VPS Is Exhausted
Introduction
Every SeFlow Cloud VPS includes a predefined amount of monthly outgoing traffic. When this limit is reached, the system automatically applies certain measures to ensure continuity of service without interrupting connectivity, but with reduced network performance.
What Traffic Is Included
Every Cloud VPS includes a monthly threshold of outgoing traffic. Incoming traffic does not count toward the monthly usage.
- Counted traffic: outgoing (upload) traffic only;
- Non-counted traffic: incoming (download) traffic;
- Maximum available bandwidth: varies depending on the selected plan.
What Happens When the Limit Is Exceeded
Automatic Bandwidth Reduction
Once the included monthly traffic is exhausted, the Cloud VPS bandwidth is automatically reduced to a lower value than the nominal one.
The server remains reachable and fully functional, but the overall throughput will be limited until the next monthly reset or until additional traffic is purchased.
Example of Expected Behavior
- Included traffic: 10 TB
- When exceeded → bandwidth may be throttled (e.g., down to 10 Mbps)
- At the end of the month → nominal bandwidth is restored
Specific values can vary depending on the SeFlow plan selected.
How to Increase Available Traffic
If you expect to reach the limit or your project requires heavy network usage, you have two options:
- Upgrade to a higher plan that includes more monthly traffic;
- Purchase additional traffic packages, if available.
When Traffic Usage Resets
Traffic usage is automatically reset every month on the service renewal date. From that moment, the Cloud VPS bandwidth returns to the nominal level defined by your plan.
How to Check Traffic Usage
You can monitor your Cloud VPS traffic usage directly from the SeFlow Control Panel.
- Log in to the SeFlow Control Panel.
- Go to the Cloud VPS section.
- Select the desired server.
- Open the Traffic or “Statistics” tab.
- Check the updated monthly consumption.
Best Practices to Avoid Traffic Exhaustion
- use a CDN for static content (images, videos, large files);
- optimize server-side application code;
- limit unnecessary traffic (bots, scrapers, uncontrolled API requests);
- configure firewall and rate-limiting to reduce unwanted traffic;
- monitor traffic statistics regularly.
